Kaizer Chiefs are counting the cost of a busy schedule and some pretty indifferent results. Who’s injured and who’s fit for the Glamour Boys?

Chiefs sweat over playmaker Maboe

New Chiefs signing Lebohang Maboe was forced off during the second half of their 0-0 stalemate with Golden Arrows. The severity of his injury is unclear, but it’s a blow for both club and player. Maboe was recently picked in Pitso Mosimane’s latest Bafana squad to face Guinea and Eritrea. The 31-year-old playmaker has two goals and two assists from seven Betway Premiership outings this term. Chiefs have now drawn four of their seven league matches, dropping points in four of their last five.

Goalkeeper Brandon Petersen picked up a knee injury in training and will miss up to six weeks. Meanwhile, striker Wandile Duba will miss up to two weeks with a hip and groin issue. Thabiso Monyane is also unavailable. The timing isn’t the worst, seeing as there’s an international break on the horizon. Duba has three goals from four Betway Premiership outings this term. His strike rate of 75% makes him the most clinical finisher at the club right now. He was conspicuous by his absence, as Chiefs fired a blank at the weekend to draw 0-0 with Golden Arrows.

Bafana Bafana meet Guinea

Meanwhile, South Africa will be intrigued to see Bafana in action under new coach Pitso Mosimane. They face Guinea in an AFCON qualifier on Saturday, 26 September at 18:00. Maboe will be desperate to prove his fitness for this one, but faces a race against time to do so.
