New mothers can be with their baby 24/7 and still feel alone. In the months after birth, many mothers recover physically, may be on parental leave and away from their everyday social networks, and must meet childcare demands. These changes can dramatically reshape opportunities for social connection. In fact, “aloneness” may be a common part of the transition to parenthood. While a baby’s presence can offer companionship, it does not necessarily provide the reciprocal interaction that creates feelings of connection.
