The refurbishment of the water canal at the Dingleydale Irrigation Scheme in Dingledale near Bushbuckridge is set to begin soon following damage caused by recent heavy rains and floods. MEC Khethiwe Moeketsi confirmed the commitment during her on-farm intervention visit, assuring farmers that the Department is prioritising restoration to protect livelihoods. The 1748-hectare project, established in 1966, relies on the canal to supply water for furrow irrigation, supporting grain and vegetable production across the scheme. More than 300 families depend on the irrigation system for their daily income and food security, making the canal a critical component of the local agricultural economy. Repairing the canal will ensure consistent water flow and help farmers resume normal production schedules without further disruption.
