Eberechi Eze’s early goal sent Arsenal back to the Premier League summit on Saturday, while Tottenham Hotspur earned a crucial first win of 2026 to revive their fight for survival.

With Manchester City victorious in the FA Cup semi-final against Southampton, Arsenal knew that a win over Newcastle United would take them top.

The sides started level on 70 points and goal difference, with City ahead on goals scored.

Eze eased the tension, drilling in from outside the box after Kai Havertz’s lay-off to seal a 1-0 win.

The Gunners, nine points clear two weeks ago before City closed the gap, are chasing a first title since 2004 against Pep Guardiola’s side hunting a seventh crown in nine years.

At the bottom, Spurs claimed a vital 1-0 victory over Wolves thanks to Joao Palhinha’s late strike, delivering Roberto De Zerbi’s first win since replacing Igor Tudor.

Elsewhere, Fulham kept European hopes alive by edging Villa 1-0 through Ryan Sessegnon while Liverpool beat Crystal Palace 3-1 with goals from Alexander Isak, Andy Robertson and Florian Wirtz to move fourth, level with Aston Villa and Manchester United on 58 points.

The Red Devils will take on Brentford at Old Trafford on Monday night football.
