Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Aden McCarthy will play in the UEFA Champions League (UCL) league phase just months after joining Sabah FK.

Sabah FK qualified for the competition’s league phase following their dramatic 6-4 aggregate win over Hapoel Be’er Sheva.

McCarthy made his debut on the night as he came on in extra time to help Sabah qualify for the UEFA Champions League.

This is the first time that the Azerbaijan outfit will be playing in the UEFA Champions League, and McCarthy is now part of that history.

Sabah have been on the rise since their formation in 2017, and they would hope to do their best against the best in Europe.

They have been handed some tough fixtures in the league phase, including facing former UEFA Champions League winners.

This means McCarthy and his Sabah teammates will not have it easy at all, especially given the magnitude of the competition.

Among the teams McCarthy’s Sabah will face are Premier League giants Arsenal and Manchester United as well as Barcelona.
