Two Lives Restored and Off the Streets of Paarl

Compassion has a way of shining a light into the most challenging circumstances. For two people who found themselves living on the streets because ‘life happened,’ that same compassion found a way to lead them back home.
Cape Town, South Africa (05 February 2026) – When people take a moment to open their hearts to the struggles of others, which often carry more pain than meets the eye, they begin to truly see the person behind the hardship, better understand their journey and sometimes, help them take steps toward a better path.
Thanks to the support and compassion of some South Africans, two people have been empowered to leave the streets of Paarl and break the cycle of homelessness.
Initially found by the HEART NPO, living without the bare necessities and struggling greatly to get by, this pair’s living circumstances have now been significantly improved by the compassion of those who cared.
Yesterday, they received a hot shower at the charity’s Lighthouse in Paarl before being dropped off at a nearby bus stop, where they were kept company until their bus departed to return them where they belong – back home.
“Right now, they are sleeping in a bed, safely reunited with family, equipped with a whack of printed CV’s we did for them, a R1000 Grocery Voucher to help them while they get back on their feet again, clothing, shoes, toiletries, and of course, we bought bus tickets and some airtime so that they could keep in contact with us and their families,” HEART NPO shares.
At The Lighthouse, they found relief, empowerment, dignity, hope, love, belonging and help. Though the HEART NPO team will miss their presence, they are happy that their heartfelt mission has ensured two more lives, who simply had life “happen to them”, are off the cold streets and back home with their loved ones.
This is what seeing a person beyond their circumstances can do. It can turn hardship into hope and change a life – or in this case, two.
HEART NPO strives to provide sustainable support to vulnerable communities within the Drakenstein area. The team is looking for more volunteers to join their projects and programmes to serve, empower and teach their clients.
