Thunderstorms on Sunday, Sept. 20, prompted National Weather Service flash flood warnings in north Texas, southwestern Pennsylvania and southeastern Ohio, as heavy downpours arrived at the tail end of a long stretch of record September heat. The largest totals cited in the warnings came from southeastern Ohio, where the NWS office in Charleston, West Virginia, said radar and automated gauges indicated 2.5 to 3.5 inches of rain had already fallen by late evening.
