In the year 2026, we still unfortunately do not seem to have moved on from the bigotries of the past; the old battles against anti-LGBT hatred still exist, and things show no sign of letting up any time soon. Obviously, progress has been made in that homosexuality is no longer criminalised like several decades ago, and we do have benefits afforded to gay people, such as the ability to marry their partner. But the scourge of homophobia is still alive and well.

Britain is a prime example of a country that is still very much steeped in homophobia. Just recently, Green Party MP Carla Denyer spoke in parliament about the need for LGBT-inclusive education for primary school-aged children, citing concerns from various charities and even her own constituents that commitments to inclusive education were not being met. Denyer simply asked Georgia Gould (Minister for Education) what will be done by the government to ensure children learn about the diverse relationships we see, as many children are now raised by same-sex parents.

Straight away, you’d hope that from the framing of the question, this is something nobody could reasonably take issue with. You would, however, be wrong.
