Here’s the latest on the Basic Income Support Grant to replace the current R370 SRD Grant. It is undoubtedly South Africa’s most ambitious new social welfare policy, possibly ever. However, it is being shepherded to life by an interim minister. As such, President Ramaphosa’s recent firing of Sisisi Tolashe adds a layer of uncertainty to an already contentious process.
