The U.S. administration of President Donald Trump says it's open to an extension of the Africa Growth and Opportunity Act for one year but that South Africa was viewed by the administration as a unique case.
U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer was responding to questions before the Senate Appropriations Sub-committee on Commerce, when he was specifically asked by Republican Senator John Kennedy what they intended to do about South Africa's continued inclusion in AGOA.
