  • ActionSA’s KZN leader Zwakele Mncwango posted on social media after seeing a large MK crowd gather at a ward 17 Nongoma by-election campaign event.
  • Ward 17 and ward 20 in Nongoma are both heading for by-elections after National Freedom Party councillors resigned their seats.

ActionSA’s KZN leader Zwakele Mncwango took to social media over the weekend to call out Nongoma residents ahead of Wednesday’s ward 17 by-election.

Mncwango posted after watching a packed uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) campaign gathering at ward 17 in Nongoma. People came in large numbers to hear MK leader Jacob Zuma speak.

“The people of Nongoma stop what you are doing. Every time when we campaign for our political parties, you come in numbers to fill up our tents and even wear the T-shirts of our organisations. But at the end of the day you go and vote for the IFP. I see you today what you are doing,” said Mncwango.

He said Nongoma residents have been fooling political parties for a very long time, filling up their campaign events and taking food parcels and T-shirts, while always voting IFP on election day.

At the ward 17 gathering, Zuma addressed the Nongoma community. He told residents that President Cyril Ramaphosa does not care about them. Zuma said Ramaphosa is a white man stuck in a black skin.

Multiple parties are in a final push to win ward 17, which goes to the polls on Wednesday. The ward was previously held by the National Freedom Party (NFP). The seat fell vacant after an NFP councillor resigned.

Ward 20 in Nongoma is also set for a by-election after another NFP councillor resigned. Former Nongoma Mayor Clifford NdabaNdaba, who resigned as an NFP councillor for ward 20, promised Zuma that MK will definitely win that ward.
