I Constantly Keep These “Perfect” Canned Beans In My Pantry (They Save Dinner!)

My husband is a big fan of baked beans. They’re hearty and comforting, and if you start with a canned option then they’re also easy to make — a perfect combo for football Sundays. I wasn’t a huge fan of beans in general when I met my husband, but in our five years together he’s made me a convert.
Now I tend to keep my eyes peeled for new, easy ways to eat beans (who am I?). So when I spotted a big can of Saucy Spoon’s Applewood Smoked Bacon Baked Beans at Walmart, I knew we needed to try them. Thick slices of bacon and creamy beans in a sweet-and-savory sauce? Yes, please!
Saucy Spoon has a few different flavors of baked beans at Walmart: Sweet Hickory, Jalapeño & Bourbon (which is currently sold out), and Applewood Smoked Bacon. The bacon option immediately spoke to me. Smooth navy beans and smoky bacon pieces in a molasses-y sauce spiced with onion powder, garlic powder, mustard, paprika, and apple cider vinegar sounded absolutely delicious.
It comes in a 28-ounce can, which made enough for me and my husband to eat alongside dinner and still have more to nosh on for another day or two — and it only set us back $2.22.
Making these canned baked beans couldn’t be easier. I prefer to do it in a small pot on the stove, but you can microwave the beans, too. It was a perfect, nearly effortless dinner accompaniment.
The saucy beans (the brand name really says it all) were slightly sweet, savory, and a little smoky from the bacon. Any bite that had a thick slice of bacon was the best.
Overall, they could benefit from a little more sweetness, but honestly I’d happily eat these again and again. They might even earn a coveted spot in my Super Bowl spread!
