The so-called walking dead are more aware than some people. At least zombies know exactly what they want — to consume living flesh in order to survive. Survival is the first instinct of every living thing. Yet many humans refuse to wake up or become aware of what has been happening for decades — because awareness would require using both the mind and the heart.

Survival should unite us. Instead, the many allow a handful to dictate the status quo. Hard questions go unasked. Critical thinking has been replaced with convenience. Most people simply go along to get along.

An elderly woman was walking down the sidewalk near her home when a would-be robber approached her. He flashed what appeared to be a gun and demanded her money.

Her response startled him.

“What makes you think I have money?” she asked.

Angered, the young man stepped back, bracing himself as if to strike. He leaned in close, attempting to terrorize her.

“What’s wrong with you, old lady? Don’t you know I could knock you out and take everything you have?”
