SAPS spends R1.3 billion on senior management as government defends leadership costs

Government has confirmed that R1.331 billion was paid out to senior managers within the South African Police Service (SAPS) during the 2025/2026 financial year, while moving to dismiss reports suggesting each of the country's 722 top police officials individually earns R5 million a year.
