Aiden Markram and Lungi Ngidi spearheaded South Africa to a 57-run win over Canada in their ICC T20 World Cup opener on Monday.
Captain Markram struck 59 off 32 balls, leading his side to a commanding total of 213/4.
David Miller and Tristan Stubbs were strong at back-end, putting on an unbeaten partnership of 75. Miller blazed to 39 off 23 balls while Stubbs smashed 34 off 19.
Man of the match Ngidi claimed four wickets to restrict Canada to just 156/8. His opening spell was crucial, removing Canada’s top-order batsmen to set the tone for the innings.
Navneet Dhaliwal was Canada’s best player, striking a smooth 64 off 49 balls to ensure his side delivered some highly watchable batting moments.
The Canadians will hope to get some points on the board when they face the UAE on Friday.
For South Africa, the victory sets up Wednesday’s clash with Afghanistan well, with the Proteas looking to build on their strong start to the tournament.
Wednesday’s encounter will be broadcast live on SuperSport at 7:30am.
