After Much Prayer and Preparation, New Life Baby House Opens Doors to its First Little One

Ten years of prayers, dreams, and preparation finally found their heartbeat this month as pastors and founders, Tanya and Roger Tedder, welcomed their very first little one into the New Life Baby House family.
Hillcrest, South Africa (19 February 2026) – From the moment Tanya and Roger Tedder stepped into their roles at Hillside Church, they felt a deep calling to lead a ministry that reaches beyond the church walls to change lives in their community.
Together, they run an NPO called IkusasaLethu, which works in Embo Valley and the surrounding areas in a number of different ways.
Yet still, Tanya and Roger were moved to do more.
“For about ten years, it has been a dream to open up a baby home for abandoned and vulnerable babies. We believe that we have so much love to give, and we want to assist in reclaiming their destinies and dignity. Biblically, it is the responsibility of the church to care for widows and orphans,” Tanya shares with us.
Ten years later, they have finally opened the doors to their very own baby safe haven, the New Life Baby House.
“It is surreal and such a blessing to be at this point. It is a dream come true,” Tanya says.
Within just a few days, they welcomed their first baby, little Baby K, having passed through all the legal requirements – a precious new resident who has changed their lives in the best ways.
“It was a holy and emotional moment for us all. Many tears. Practically, we have had lots to do, but I think we are doing well under the circumstances. This little boy is so loved, and he is already making wonderful developmental progress. He is happy and settled.”
The House will potentially be getting another baby later this week, and the team anticipates being a full house very soon.
Tanya and Roger’s ultimate vision is to provide a safe and secure haven for the most vulnerable members of the community. The current challenge, however, is securing funding to keep this vision alive and bring it to fruition.
“We don’t have funding as yet, so we are appealing to local and further businesses to help us keep our doors open. We have a campaign called Adopt a Cot, where people can get on board with a monthly donation to cover expenses and keep our doors open,” Tanya appeals.
New Life Baby House is situated at 3 Westridung Road in Hillcrest. For more information, email Admin@hillside.org.za or call 031 765 3080.
