UNSC cowers to condemn US-Israeli attack on Iran

Most U.N. Security Council members avoided criticising the US-Israeli operation against Iran or criticised it very obliquely when the Council met in an emergency session, hours after the military escalation began on Saturday. That's the view of a senior analyst with the International Crisis Group who took aim at European nations for their criticism and condemnation of Iran's retaliatory strikes while avoided any direct criticism of the attacks that precipitated this latest escalation in the Middle East. Speaking to SABC News, Dr Richard Gowan - who is the Programme Director for Global Issues and Institutions at the Crisis Group – said NATO member states in the Council were simply too nervous to criticize the current US administration for fear of losing their security umbrella.
