I’m not picky when it comes to nut butters, but my tried-and-true favorite will always be peanut butter. It’s what I grew up on, and it kick-started my obsession with nutty spreads. (In fact, I love peanut butter so much that I even gave it up for Lent one year.)

While a jar of classic peanut butter will always suffice, when I want something a bit more exciting I turn to Big Spoon Roasters. The North Carolina-based company specializes in some of the most unique nut butter flavors — Vanilla Latte, Carrot Cake, and Sugar Plum, for example — that I’ve seen on the market. So when I got word that the company was releasing a new Toffee Crunch flavor to kick off the new year, I knew I simply had to get my hands on a jar — and I’ve been sneaking spoonfuls ever since.

As with all the brand’s products, this nut butter is vegan and free of soy, gluten, and palm oil. You can purchase Big Spoon Roasters’ Toffee Crunch Peanut & Cashew Butter on the company’s website for $15.99 per jar through March 31.

I’ve yet to try a Big Spoon Roasters nut butter I didn’t like, and this one is no exception. I could clearly see whole pieces — not just chunks — of candied pecans throughout. It’s thick and creamy (stirring is required!), and the candied pecans add a lovely crunch (thanks to their crystallized exterior and caramelized taste). They remind me of the warm nuts sold during the holidays at stands in New York City. Plus, the touch of salt just helps bring all the flavors together.

It’s delicious and not overly sweet, and it doesn’t have that strong of a coconut flavor (if that’s not your vibe). I’ve been spooning it over yogurt bowls, swirling it into oatmeal, smearing it on toast, and eating it straight out the jar.
