There’s a coffee shop near my house where I used to write every morning.
Small place. Three tables. The owner knew my order — black coffee, no sugar. I’d sit by the window, open my laptop, and write for two hours before heading to work.
One morning, I showed up and the place was closed. Permanently. No warning. Just a “For Lease” sign on the door.
I stood there for a minute, staring at the empty space through the glass.
And I felt this strange, hollow feeling in my chest. Not just because I lost a coffee shop. But because I realized I’d been showing up there every day for six months, and I couldn’t remember a single conversation I had with myself during those mornings.
I wrote. I produced. I checked boxes.
But I never actually listened to what I was feeling. What I was thinking. What I needed.
That’s when it hit me that I’d been ignoring the most important person in my life.
Myself.
