The Buccaneers needed a win to secure the Betway Premiership but failed to score against a very organised City defence.
Pirates have another opportunity to win the league and only need to beat Orbit College in Mbombela on Saturday.
Sebola felt the Pirates players failed to adhere to the coach’s instructions during the Durban City match.
“In my opinion, they had already won the game before it was played. This was the first instance where they played a match requiring three points to win the league, but they failed to adhere to the coach’s instructions,” he told KickOff.
Sebola also attacked the players, saying they were selfish and wanted glory for themselves.
“Each player appeared eager to secure a place in history.
“This approach played into Durban City’s hands, who are adept at defending high crosses due to their tall defenders,” the former Pirates striker added.
The Buccaneers won 19 corner kicks compared to Durban City’s one, but were unable to find a breakthrough.
Sebola like many fans, has questioned whether the team focuses on set-pieces during training.
“I am uncertain whether the Pirates’ coaching staff emphasizes corner kick practice during training,” Sebola added.
Orlando Pirates struggle to utilize set-pieces
Throughout the season, the Buccaneers have struggled to score from free kicks and corner kicks. Despite having tall players like Evidence Makgopa and Thalente Mbatha, the duo have hardly troubled during set-pieces this season.
