War cries, flashes and packed stadiums showed just how much pride and preparation go into one of Cape Town’s biggest school events.

Cape Town, South Africa (10 February 2026) – School pride was on full display in Cape Town over the weekend as the 2026 DTBS unfolded. The war cries, the perfectly timed chants, the blazers opening and closing in unison, and that unmistakable feeling of “this is OUR school.” Once again reminded everyone why school gees is a big deal in South Africa.

Thousands of learners, teachers, parents and supporters packed out Green Point Athletic Stadium for the athletics events, while the iconic Flashes performances lit up DHL Stadium. From the track to the pavilion, the atmosphere was electric.

More than just a competition, the DTBS has become one of South Africa’s most prestigious inter-school events, blending top-tier athletics with unmatched school spirit. It’s loud, it’s colourful, and it’s exactly the kind of reminder that school pride.

At the heart of the excitement were the Flashes, the much-loved war-cry element of the DTBS. This year, DF Akademie stole the spotlight, walking away with the Flashes and Best Gees titles. The win added to an already unforgettable day that celebrated not just athletic ability, but unity, preparation and pride.

Atelisha Harilal, Head of Marketing and Student Recruitment at STADIO Higher Education (the sponsor of the 2026DTBS) said this is that one event you circle on your calendar.

“This is such a highlight on the school and community calendar every year. The dedication and talent on display are a perfect example of teamwork and healthy competition in action.”

Stellenberg High School principal Yolandé Havinga echoed this sentiment, noting that the event showcases the commitment of all four schools. While Stellenberg celebrated its own success on the day, it emphasised that the fierce competition is what makes the DTBS so special, with schools already looking ahead to next year’s showdown.

Seeing the Flash performances shows that school spirit in South Africa is alive and louder than ever.

Take a look at the cool flashes each school put together:

Precision and energy were the standouts here. Collecting the most points on the track.

Hoërskool Bellville
