- Sundowns postponed Saturday’s Austria trip after midfielder Jayden Adams was found dead in Cape Town at the age of 25.
- The camp has not been cancelled, but it is unclear whether Sundowns’ four scheduled friendly matches will still go ahead.
Mamelodi Sundowns have delayed their pre-season trip to Austria following the death of midfielder Jayden Adams.
The 25-year-old was found dead in Schotsche Kloof, Cape Town, on Saturday morning.
Adams played for Sundowns and Bafana Bafana.
Sundowns were due to fly to Austria on Saturday but decided not to leave the country.
“Given the circumstances, the team did not travel to Austria yesterday,” Sundowns media officer Shupi Nkgadima told The Citizen.
“As it stands, the pre-season has not been cancelled, but the departure has been postponed.”
The club has not said when the team will travel or whether the delay will affect its planned friendly matches.
Sundowns are due to play Red Bull Salzburg in Austria on 18 July. They are also scheduled to face Ukrainian club Dynamo Kyiv on 23 July.
The South African champions are then expected to play Saudi Pro League side Al Hilal twice, on 24 and 26 July.
The matches form part of Sundowns’ preparations for the new season.
But the club’s immediate focus is on mourning Adams and supporting those affected by his death.
Sundowns have not yet announced a new departure date for the Austria camp.
