Queer Representation Done Right: Let’s Talk About ‘Let’s Talk About Love’

In my last article here, I covered a really great queer book, Who’s Afraid of Gender? by Judith Butler. As expected from Butler, it was really good and and very informative, not just about queer and trans issues, but also in terms of the history of anti-queer discourse we often see from the right.

Today, I want to write about another brilliant queer book I read last year, Let’s Talk About Love by Claire Kann. We’re gonna be switching gears a little bit with this one, as Let’s Talk About Love is a novel, Claire Kann’s debut, released in 2018. I first learned about the book after reading Loveless by Alice Oseman, another fantastic queer book I’ve written about.

One of the things that makes Let’s Talk About Love so brilliant, in my opinion, is that it explores asexuality and romance, how these identities can intersect, and the problems people can face in how they are treated based on these examples of queerness. Kann does a really good job getting representation right, making sure these identities are well-written and thought out.
