(The Post News)- Julius Malema, leader of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), has strongly denied allegations that he provided money and expensive gifts to late taxi industry figure Jotham Msibi. He described the claims as unfounded and politically motivated.

Court Affidavit Responds to Kunene’s Claims

In an affidavit submitted to the Gauteng High Court on 7 April 2026, Malema responded to accusations made by Kenny Kunene, deputy president of the Patriotic Alliance (PA). The allegations are based on statements from witnesses claiming improper dealings between Malema and Msibi.

Malema Denies Secret Meetings

Malema firmly rejected claims that he held secret or late-night meetings with Msibi. While he acknowledged knowing the taxi boss and visiting his Uvivi Lodge, he stated that their interactions were limited to social or political discussions, particularly relating to transport arrangements for EFF activities.

He further emphasized that he was never alone during these meetings, noting that businessman Ze Nxumalo was always present. According to Malema, this directly contradicts claims suggesting covert exchanges took place.

Witness Testimonies Detail Alleged Cash Delivery

The allegations stem from testimony by Msibi’s former chef, Tshepo Molekoa, along with an anonymous “Witness A.” They claim that Malema delivered a Louis Vuitton bag containing R80,000 in cash, along with a bottle of Macallan whisky, during private visits.

Dismissing the accusations, Malema questioned the credibility of the witnesses. He argued that their accounts focus on counting money but fail to explain the purpose of the alleged meetings. He also accused Kunene of promoting false narratives for political gain.

The matter forms part of an urgent defamation case brought by Malema against Kunene. The case follows remarks made on a podcast in which Kunene alleged that the EFF leader had close ties to Msibi, who has been linked to the so-called “Big 5” taxi car
