When the leaves fall, the air turns crisp and the unmistakable verbiage spews forth over the air waves, we know that the winter holidays are upon us. The lyrics were written by Theodor “Dr. Seuss” Geisel, the music was composed by Albert Hague, and the song was performed by Thurl Ravenscroft for the tv special How the Grinch Stole Christmas, based on the book that was published in 1957.
“You’re a mean one, Mr. Grinch.
You really are a heel.
You’re as cuddly as a cactus.
You’re as charming as an eel.
You’re a bad banana with a greasy black peel.”
How the Grinch Stole Christmas was a staple in my childhood as I would sit before the tv and immerse myself in the tale of a creature bereft of caring and compassion for others. He figured that if he was going to miserable, he might as well see to it that everyone was going to be. That included the Whos, delightful beings who lived in the village below his mountain peak cave that he shared with his poor, put upon pup named Max. The Whos celebrated Christmas to the fullest, with food and merriment and gifts galore. The Grinch had no patience for the feasting and festing…
