An amazing thing happened earlier this month: I got a job. While that means that my personal writing may need to take backseat for my day job, the upside is I don’t need to worry about silly things like how many people are reading my Medium posts.

And so I can write whatever I want.

It’s a good thing, too, because somebody stumbled into the comments section of an old article that happened to focus on a particular obsession of mine and now I can respond directly without any consideration for whether or not anybody else actually cares about it.

In this case, the subject in question is the Johnny Depp defamation suit of 2021. And a commenter was upset that, while I accurately described Depp’s abusive patterns, I didn’t also blame his ex-wife, Amber Heard for the suffering she endured:

If you can point out one line where your making amber take any accountability and Depp not being painted as an automatic abuser I’d love to here it .

This has been the strategy from the beginning with the Depp campaign — rather than defend him as a non-abuser, make him the victim and paint Heard as somehow worse than him.
