South Africa is strengthening its position in the international apple market as demand for Pink Lady apples continues to grow across Europe and the United Kingdom. Despite late-season weather challenges in some major production areas, Tru-Cape Fruit Marketing recorded strong export growth this season, with volumes to UK retailers increasing by more than 16%. The growth highlights the importance of South Africa’s diverse apple-growing regions, where different microclimates support the production of Pink Lady apples with strong colour development. South Africa now supplies around 80% of Pink Lady apples produced in the Southern Hemisphere, underlining the country’s growing importance to international markets. For the South African apple industry, the continued expansion of Pink Lady exports provides an important opportunity to strengthen international market relationships and build on the country’s established reputation as a reliable supplier.
