Orlando Pirates transfers: Profiling new striker Pedersen

Orlando Pirates recently acquired the services a relatively unknown Norwegian striker Sebastian Pedersen.

He arrives to try and help the Soweto giants convert the goalscring chances they have been creating in the past.

While Pirates outscored all the teams last season, they have not really had any centre-forward to rely on.

Abdeslam Ouaddou had Evidence Makgopa, Andre de Jong, Yanela Mbuthuma at his disposal while Boitumelo Radiopane was used sparingly.

It is for that reason the club’s scouting department went all out to bring Pedersen on board ahead of next season.

But who is Pedersen?

WHO IS NEW ORLANDO PIRATES STRIKER SEBASTIAN PEDERSEN?

Pedersen is a 27-year-old centre-forward born on 8 June 1999 in Elverum, Norway.

He started his youth career with HamKam before moving to Stabaek between 2015 and 2016 where he was also promoted to the first team.

Pedersen played for a number of local clubs until he reached his full potential at Moss FK and later at Sogndal IL.

At Moss FK, the lanky striker contributed 30 goals and three assists in 72 matches across all competitions.

Pedersen would go on to score 21 goals and provide five assists in 45 matches before Pirates snatched him.

Overall, Pedersen has 59 career goals and nine assists in 166 matches he played for various clubs as per Transfermarkt.

Now, Pirates coach Abdeslam Ouaddou has some tough decisions to make as the 2026-27 season kicks off.

The lanky mentor has to decide on who to start between five of his centre-forwards, including Pedersen.

Makgopa, Mbuthuma, De Jong, Radiopane and Pedersen will have also have to work hard to cement a place in the coach’s starting line-up.
