South African musician and producer Rea Gopane recently opened up about several topics in the music and entertainment industry during a candid interview with The Yanos Magazine.
In the explosive and unfiltered conversation, Gopane addressed the tension with Scoop Makhathini, and the legal drama involving Bonang Matheba. He also spoke about DJ Shimza experimenting with AI, shared his perspective on Kwesta’s “Masters,” and discussed the production of his song Suka! while reflecting on the growing influence of AI music.
Gopane is widely known for “Suka!”, which has gained significant attention on the music streaming platform Spotify. The track has already reached more than six million plays, showing its growing popularity among listeners.
Released in December 2025, the song quickly attracted thousands of listeners and continued to grow in streams over time. “Suka!” is described as an AI-generated Amapiano track, highlighting how technology and artificial intelligence are slowly becoming part of the music creation process.
During the interview with The Yanos Magazine, Gopane alleged that Shimza uses artificial intelligence when making music. According to him, the DJ’s success could be linked to this method of production.
“Shimza has AI hits. Shimza has the most monthly listeners right now across South Africa. The song is like AI and his working with this genius white guy. Yeah, he’s the one does all this sh*t for him,” he said.
The musician also spoke about his latest project, an album titled Reatlegile, which was released on 10 April 2026. Gopane shared the inspiration behind the project and reflected on the personal journey and message behind the album.
