The 21-year-old left the Buccaneers in July following the conclusion of the FIFA World Cup.
It was a matter of when in terms of the talented playmaker taking his trade to Europe.
So far, he has impressed for his new team. In the four league matches he has played, President Yama 2K has scored twice and is often used as an impact player.
He scored a winning penalty to help Union SG win the Belgian Super Cup in his first game against Club Brugge. His introduction has won him over with the fans and introduced him to Belgian football.
Mofokeng and Union SG also had a chance to play in the UEFA Champions League but were eliminated in the playoffs.
This, though, is not all bad news for the former Orlando Pirates winger. His club will now play in the Europa League, which could be good for his growth.
Mofokeng enjoying life in Belgium
While the Champions League is more prestigious and bigger, Mofokeng’s chances of making an impact there were slim, given Union SG would have been one of the weaker teams.
He might not have played half of the games, and the team was surely not going to make the knockout rounds.
In the Europa League, Mofokeng will get a chance to showcase his skills. He will come up against clubs like Celta Vigo, Real Sociedad, Celtic and Lyon. A good showing could see him attract interest from clubs in La Liga or even Ligue 1.
If Union SG reach the quarter-finals or semi-finals, the President will likely make a move to a bigger league.
At this current moment, he is guaranteed game time and has been given a chance to grow as a player. Mofokeng will at least play over 20 matches this season, which will be a big boost given that it is his first season in Europe.
He scored 11 goals in his last season for Orlando Pirates and was named the PSL Player of the Season.
