Federal Name Databases Now List Lake America, but Marine Forecasts Still Say Lake Ontario

The federal government's official place-name database now calls Lake Ontario by the name Lake America, but the National Weather Service forecasts that boaters, anglers, and shoreline residents in western and central New York rely on have not caught up. As of the Buffalo forecast office's 4:53 a.m. EDT nearshore forecast on Thursday, Sept. 10, every New York zone on the lake was still labeled as Lake Ontario nearshore waters.
