Actress Katlego Danke has paid a heartfelt tribute to the late actor Seputla Sebogodi, remembering him as a performer who believed deeply in her talent, dreams and career. Danke attended and spoke beautifully at the memorial service held in honour of the celebrated actor, who sadly passed away on the evening of 15 July 2026 after complications related to diabetes.

The memorial service took place in Pretoria on Thursday, 23 July at 09:00 at the South African State Theatre, bringing together loved ones, colleagues and members of the entertainment industry to remember Sebogodi and celebrate his life and legacy.

For many viewers, Danke and Sebogodi will forever be connected through their memorable roles on the popular soapie Generations. Danke played the role of Dineo Mashaba, Sebogodi’s on-screen wife, and their characters shared many moments that left a lasting impression on audiences.

Speaking at the memorial, Danke reflected on the special bond they shared both on and off screen. She said she will always remember the words Sebogodi used a lot on the soapie, but it was his belief in her that she treasured the most.

“I’ve never worked with somebody who believed in my talent even more then I did. He believed in my career, he believed in what I could do. I remember being interviewed on 702 and he called in only to remind me that Charlie you said you’re going to to do this and this with your career, don’t forget. I appreciated that so much because nobody believed in me the way Seputla Sebogodi did.”

Danke also shared a touching memory from their time on set, recalling a scene where their characters had to eat crème brûlée. What began as a simple moment while filming eventually became a cherished memory between the two actors.

“First time being on set with somebody who had a love for finer things that was quite hidden. I remember the one time being on set and Kenneth and Dineo had to have crème brûlée, and he was like, ‘What is this thing, how do you eat it’.

“He made me take him afterwards to Melrose Arch to eat crème brûlée. Little did I know that all these little moments would lead to today. Sad, but beautiful.

Danke also revealed that their final conversation was centred around a project she wanted Sebogodi to be part of. His response, she said, was immediate and reflected the generosity and warmth she remembered him for.

“Our last conversation was me asking him to do a project for me, and the first thing he said was ‘Of course’. I said, ‘I haven’t even asked you, you don’t know what I want’. He said, ‘Anything for you, anything’.

The emotional tribute captured the impact Sebogodi had on Danke’s life and career. Beyond his work as a celebrated performer, she remembered him as someone who encouraged her and reminded her to keep believing in her own dreams.

As the entertainment industry continues to mourn his passing, Danke’s words offered a glimpse into the special relationship they shared and the memories that will continue to live on.

“You will be missed. You will be sorely missed,” said Danke.
