When is the fifth Ashes Test?

BBC | 29.12.2025 22:54

The fifth Test of the 2025-26 Ashes series is being played in Sydney and starts on Sunday, 4 January.

Play will start at the Sydney Cricket Ground at 10:30 local time, or 23:30 GMT on Saturday for followers in the United Kingdom.

Australia hold an unassailable 3-1 series lead after winning the first three Tests in Perth, Brisbane and Adelaide, but England will be looking to end the series on a high after picking up their first Test victory in Australia since 2011 last time out in Melbourne.

England have not won in Sydney since 2011, when Alastair Cook scored 189 in the first innings as the tourists triumphed by an innings and 83 runs.

Australia have the better record of the two nations at the SCG, winning 27 times to England's 22 Test victories.

A total of eight draws have been played - including the 2022 match, when Stuart Broad and last batter Jimmy Anderson survived the final 12 balls.

Full match commentary will be available via Test Match Special on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra and BBC Sounds from 22:55 GMT.
