South African swimmers put on an exciting display of talent and skill over three days at Hillcrest, highlighting the depth of the country’s rising stars.
Tshwane, South Africa (26 February 2026) – Tshwane’s Hillcrest Swimming Pool came alive as the 2026 Grand Prix #2 Invitational Meet brought together South Africa’s finest swimmers and rising talents for three days of thrilling competition. Packed with fierce head-to-head races and standout performances, the meet showcased the talent of the nation’s swimming programme.
Sprint events lit up the pool, with Caitlyn de Lange storming to an impressive 25.14 in the 50m Freestyle, narrowly missing the Olympic qualification standard by just a second. Junior sensation Armand Landmann continued his rise in the Men’s sprints, clocking 50.50 in the 100m Freestyle and blazing 23.09 in the 50m Freestyle, firmly establishing himself as one of South Africa’s brightest sprint prospects.
Breaststroke specialists delivered again, with Chris Smith powering through the 50m in 26.79 and posting 1:01.76 in the 100m Breaststroke, signalling strong form ahead of continental and global events.
Junior World Championship finalist Jessica Thompson demonstrated her versatility, claiming the 100m Freestyle and 50m Butterfly, confirming her status as a dynamic young talent.
Distance and butterfly events kept spectators on the edge of their seats, with athletes showing incredible strength, stamina, and flair. Catherine van Rensburg and Adrian van Wyk impressed with commanding swims that had everyone watching. While butterfly specialists Jaime Mote and Juan Boshoff lit up the pool, delivering thrilling performances that showcased their talent and determination.
Kaylene Corbett wowed with her polished and precise medley, proving her versatility and composure under pressure.
Beyond the standout names, the meet highlighted South Africa’s swim depth. Young swimmers challenged the more experienced competitors, making it a true celebration of emerging talent.
