Postpartum Pet Aversion (PPA) is a condition in which a new mother may suddenly experience feelings of disgust, rage, hatred, or fear of their previously beloved pet. Although this happens more often after the birth of a child, it can also occur peripartum (before the birth of the child, while the woman is still pregnant). Although this condition is not very common, it can happen to anyone, and so it helps to understand why it happens, how to prevent PPA, and how to deal with the condition if it does develop.
