Kaizer Chiefs are willing to sacrifice centre-back Given Msimango in order to land Langelihle Phili from Stellenbosch FC.
Amakhosi have been doing all they could to sign Phili but it appears Stellies are not eager to let their top striker go for peanuts.
The Glamour Boys had already offered Ashley du Preez plus cash in an attempt to sweeten the deal.
However, Stellies stuck to their guns and demanded more from the Soweto giants, and for that reason, Chiefs have now included Msimango in the deal.
Msimango, with just 13 league appearances last season, has battled to own that centre-back position since his arrival from TS Galaxy.
The arrival of Thabo Moloisane on a free transfer from Stellies will certainly not make things easy for Msimango.
Should this deal go through, Msimango will join a growing list of players deemed surplus to requirements by Chiefs, including Thabo Cele.
KAIZER CHIEFS OFFER MSIMANGO AND DU PREEZ PLUS CASH FOR PHILI
“SABC Sport has established that defender Given Msimango is one of two players Kaizer Chiefs have offered, together with a cash payment, to Stellenbosch FC in an effort to secure the signing of highly rated winger Langelihle Phili,” reads part of a report by SABC Sport.
At 21, Phili has proven himself to be a reliable striker, and Chiefs are looking for a long-term solution to their goalscoring problems.
Nonetheless, Phili understands that he will not just walk into the starting line-up as there is stiff competition upfront.
As things stand, Fernando da Cruz has Flavio da Silva and Etoisa Ighodaro as his target men, meaning Phili will have to fight for his position.
Phili has 11 goals and two assists in 72 topflight matches, meaning he will have to up his game given the expectations at Chiefs.
