Navy Plans Indiana’s First Power-Producing Nuclear Reactor, a Microreactor at NWS Crane

Indiana is set to host its first power-producing nuclear reactor at Naval Weapons Station Crane, where the U.S. Department of War plans to install a commercially owned and operated micro-modular reactor no later than September 2028. The Sept. 9 announcement also makes Crane the planned site of the Navy's first shore-based advanced microreactor, according to World Nuclear News. The department said the unit will provide around-the-clock power independent of the commercial electric grid so critical operations can continue under the most demanding conditions.
