Media personality, content creator, and founder of Awkward Dates, Lasizwe Dambuza, has shared thoughtful advice with his followers on Instagram. His message focused on self-expression, honesty, and the pressure many people feel on social media to appear a certain way.

Lasizwe encouraged his gay supporters in particular to embrace who they are without worrying about outside judgement or expectations. He reminded them that they do not need to constantly act a certain way just to be accepted or liked online.

He shared his advice in a heartfelt Instagram story, writing:

“Dear gays,
You do not need to perform masculinity, nonchalance, sexiness, or “coolness” 24/7.
If you want to sing loudly on your stories, be goofy, be excited, be soft, be expressive…
do it. It’s your platform.
The saddest thing about social media is watching people build entire personalities around being desirable instead of being themselves.
And then they wonder why they’re lonely.
People can only fall in love with the version of you that you show them. If you’re constantly selling a character, eventually someone will meet the real you and feel like they were sold something else.
Stop performing. Start existing.
The right people aren’t looking for your image.
They’re looking for you.”

His message highlights a growing issue on social media, where many users feel pressured to create “perfect” versions of themselves. According to Lasizwe, this can lead to loneliness and disconnect because people end up hiding their true personalities behind an online image.

He also stressed that authenticity is important for real connections. When people pretend to be someone they are not, it becomes harder to form genuine relationships. Eventually, the real person behind the “performance” may not match the image others were first attracted to.

Lasizwe’s message has resonated with many people online who relate to the pressure of trying to look perfect on social media. His advice serves as a reminder that being yourself is enough, and that the right people will appreciate the real you, not a version you feel forced to create.
