Music has a way of connecting people in moments that words can’t. Five years on, with 1.3 million views and counting, this performance of South Africa’s anthem still inspires admiration, respect and unity around the world!

South Africa (17 February 2026) – Performed by violinist Margot Zarzycka, this special rendition of Nkosi Sikelel’ iAfrika has travelled far beyond its original concert setting in Poland.

There’s something about our South African national anthem that moves people. Doesn’t matter where in the world you are – on home soil or halfway across the world.

It includes verses from five different languages – the most ever recorded in a national anthem in the world. It speaks about our complex history. It celebrates South African spirit and unity.

We’ve heard it at major sporting events, including the Rugby World Cup. At international gatherings, it has historically been played as a song of liberation. South African artists have flown the flag high – the world’s most famous and successful Zulu vocal group, Ladysmith Black Mambazo, performed the anthem live at Montreux Jazz Festival in 1989 and that moment lives on to this day.

The fact that a musician from Poland has performed it with such reverence says something beautiful – our message of unity, hope and togetherness brings light all across the world.

Here’s the video:

Upon hitting its milestone, the video has been uploaded to Facebook where it has gone viral with over 131,000 views since it was shared on February 13th.

“To our friends in South Africa. We are deeply honored by the extraordinary response to Margot’s rendition of Nkosi Sikelel’ iAfrika. Your national anthem carries profound history, faith, resilience, and unity. It was performed with sincere respect for the people of South Africa and for the spirit your nation represents.
Thank you for the warm embrace and for sharing this music so proudly.” shared Margot and Friends Concert Series.

The anthem was first recorded as a live performance in the ‘Margot & Friends’ concert series but it has since become a global tribute to South Africa since passing the one million milestone.

The video features Margot on violin, accompanied by pianist Michael Stewart.

Margot Zarzycka was born into a family of classical musicians in Poland and made her solo debut at just six years old. She is a prizewinner and finalist in several European violin competitions and holds advanced degrees in violin performance and education from music academies in Poznan and Gdansk. She later studied at Indiana University’s School of Music and currently serves as a core violinist with the Sarasota Orchestra in Florida.
