Kaizer Chiefs’ 2025/26 Betway Premiership title dream suffered a blow while Stellenbosch drift away from the relegation zone to safety.

Amakhosi’s Flavio Da Silva scored his fifth goal of the season, before it was cancelled by Langelihle Phili and Devin Titus’ goals.

BETWAY PREMIERSHIP: KAIZER CHIEFS 1-2 STELLENBOSCH FC

Amakhosi made the stronger start, immediately taking control of possession and territory. The home side registered the first few efforts on goal, probing and stretching the Stellies backline.

Ashley Du Preez thought he had handed Kaizer Chiefs the lead inside the opening exchanges, but his finish was ruled out for offside, a tight call that silenced the early celebrations.

Stellenbosch responded with two promising moves of their own, but neither effort tested Brandon Petersen in the Amakhosi goal.

The visitors grew into the game, but it was Kaizer Chiefs who continued to create the clearer chances.

Ethan Chislett produced a sharp, low strike that forced a strong save from Stellenbosch goalkeeper Sage Stephens. Moments later, Du Preez had the best chance of the match. Clean through, he attempted a delicate lob over Stephens, who reacted brilliantly to keep it out. The rebound fell kindly back to Du Preez, but with the goalkeeper scrambling behind him, the striker rushed his second attempt wide.

Kaizer Chiefs finally found their breakthrough in the 35th minute. Glody Lilepo delivered a perfect cross into the box, and Flavio Da Silva attacked it with conviction, flying in to guide the ball home with his chest. It was a deserved lead for the hosts, who had controlled much of the first half.

They went into the break 1-0 up, but with a sense that the game should have been beyond reach.

SECOND HALF

Stellenbosch returned with renewed intensity after the interval and struck five minutes into the second half.

In the 50th minute, Devin Titus produced a pinpoint cross to the far post where Langelihle Phili arrived unmarked to finish with his left foot and level matters at 1-1.

The goal shifted the momentum completely. Kaizer Chiefs pushed for a winner, but Stellies remained compact and dangerous on transition. As the clock ticked down, the visitors delivered the decisive blow.

In the 87th minute, a superb pass from Jabaar split the defence, releasing Devin Titus, who curled a composed finish past Petersen to complete the turnaround.

Stellenbosch held firm in the closing stages to secure all three points.

Next up, the Maroons host AmaZulu FC at Danie Craven Stadium on Friday night, while Kaizer Chiefs turn their focus to a blockbuster clash against Orlando Pirates at FNB Stadium on Saturday.
