The talented defender has been one of Polokwane City’s standout performers this season, earning praise for his consistent displays in the Betway Premiership.
Matuludi’s impressive campaign was further rewarded on Wednesday when he was named in the 26-man Bafana Bafana squad for the FIFA World Cup.
Will Matuludi join Chiefs or Pirates?
The 25-year-old has already seen former teammate Oswin Appollis leave Rise and Shine for Orlando Pirates, where he went on to compete for major trophies.
Given Pirates’ recent success and stability, the Buccaneers could have an advantage in the race for Matuludi’s signature. Kaizer Chiefs are also believed to be keen on strengthening their squad and could still make a late move for the defender.
Much could depend on Matuludi’s performances at the World Cup. A strong tournament could attract interest from overseas clubs, potentially complicating matters for both Soweto giants.
At this stage, Pirates appear to be leading the race, but Chiefs remain firmly in contention.
With Reeve Frosler expected to leave Naturena, Amakhosi may be forced to bring in another right-back to compete with Thabiso Monyane next season.
Matuludi is highly regarded for his defensive awareness, work rate and versatility, qualities that could make him a valuable addition to either side.
Chiefs are also reportedly close to signing former Stellenbosch FC defender Thabo Moloisane, who recently became a free agent after leaving the Cape Winelands outfit.
