On 10 April 2026, stakeholders from government, industry and labour gathered in Durban for the signing of Phase 2 of the Sugarcane Value Chain Master Plan to 2030. The agreement marks a major step in strengthening one of South Africa’s most important agricultural and agro processing sectors. The sugarcane industry plays a key role in supporting rural economies, providing employment and contributing to export earnings. This new phase builds on earlier progress while setting out a clearer roadmap for long term sustainability.
