Relebohile Mofokeng has been linked with a move away from Orlando Pirates since his first season with the Buccaneers.

The 21-year-old winger has reportedly attracted interest from teams in the US, Europe, Israel, and Saudi Arabia. However, despite these rumours, no official offers have been made for him.

Now in his fourth season with the Buccaneers, Mofokeng has already scored 21 goals in over 100 appearances for the Soweto giants. With seven trophies to his name, the young winger has achieved a lot in the Premier Soccer League (PSL).

Winning the Betway Premiership this season would mean he has won every major local trophy.

Many fans believe this should be Mofokeng’s final year with Orlando Pirates.

While his ideal move would be to play in one of Europe’s top five leagues, supporters feel he should be allowed to leave South Africa, even if it means playing in the US or Saudi Arabia.

Currently, Mofokeng’s market value is approximately €2 million (around R40 million). This could easily double if he has an impressive second half of the season and helps his team secure their first league title in over 14 years.

A strong performance at the FIFA World Cup could lead to clubs offering over R100 million for him.

Will Orlando Pirates sell Mofokeng before or after World Cup?

It will all depend on the player’s form going into the tournament. If he finished the season strongly, there’s a good chance that he will be an ideal starter for Bafana Bafana at the World Cup.

Irrespective of his performance, he would have caught a few eyes. A good showing at a global stage will benefit both Mofokeng and Orlando Pirates.
