For many people in the Western Cape, the severe drought of 2017 and 2018 feels like history. On the Mossel Bay Vlakte, it never truly ended. Farmers in this part of the Southern Cape have faced dry conditions for nearly a decade, with only brief relief along the way. The result has been declining farm incomes, shrinking livestock numbers and mounting financial pressure that continues to threaten livelihoods.
