🌸 THE WEIGHT OF SILENCE 🌸

By: Maduka Pamela Chinaemerem

From the Blooming Truth: Voice Of Equality

I Will like to let you know that I’m not a member of the community but I stand for Equality.

Silence can feel like safety — until it begins to suffocate.

For many people in the LGBTQ+ community, silence becomes a survival skill. You learn to laugh when they mock, to nod when they judge, to smile even when your heart wants to scream.

You become fluent in pretending because of society or religion.

But what no one tells you is this: silence is heavy.

It suffocates.

It weakens.

It is loneliness.

It isolates.

It feels like drowning.

It builds inside you like stones stacked on your chest until you find it hard to breathe.

Each unspoken truth, each forced smile, each “I’m fine” adds another layer of weight until you forget how light honesty feels and how to feel loved or be happy.

You start believing your truth is a burden others cannot carry.

You begin to believe that your existence is an inconvenience.

In African society, where reputation often matters more than reality, silence becomes armor and cage.

It protects you from gossip, hatred, anger, danger, and disgust, but steals your freedom in exchange.

Families say:

“Don’t bring shame to my name, reputation, or drag it on the mud.

Churches say:

“Pray it away, or you need deliverance, or you have been possessed.

Friends say:

stay away from me or we are no longer friends again, or says nothing at all.

And so, you learn that to be loved, you must disappear and change your reality for their delusions.

But hear this clearly:

But you were never meant to live unseen.

Your voice matters.

Your laughter matters .

Your truth matters.

Your existence matters.

The moment we break the silence, the world becomes a little less heavy. Courage is louder than fear, and vulnerability is not weakness — it is humanity.

If you feel like screaming —“scream”

if you feel like crying —“cry”

if you feel like shouting —“shout”

If your heart is breaking — “let it speak”

be it a girl, or boy,

Don’t think you are less human because you feel deeply.

No! That doesn’t mean you are weak.

An emotional fool.

You are human because you feel.

I'm not a member of the community but I'm standing for equality.

THE WEIGHT OF SILENCE : this is more emotional and Introspective. It speaks to the heartache of hiding, the loneliness of being

Misunderstood, and the quiet strength it takes to simply exist in truth.

It explores the emotional pain of hiding one’s identity and how silence can be as destructive as hate itself. Been open minded can heal what judgement once broke.

I know many people reading this today are carrying that same silence.

🌸The Blooming Truth: Voices of Equality.

*Dedicated to every voice that dared to speak, and every heart still learning to listen.*

In a world that often divides, there lies beauty in understanding. The Blooming Truth is not just about the voices that echo from the corners of silence, but the courage that fuels them.

Through the lens of equality, love, and acceptance, this piece explores what it truly means to see one another without judgment.

The LGBTQ+ community, long misunderstood, continues to redefine strength and identity.

In Africa and beyond, we see movements growing— not to erase tradition, but to remind us that humanity itself is the greatest tradition of all.

Equality is not rebellion.

Equality is a birthright.

Equality is freedom.

As the world evolves, so must our hearts. Acceptance is not a favor—it is freedom. Every person, regardless of who they love or how they identify, deserves to bloom without fear.

And when we finally stop labeling love as ‘different,’ we will realize it has always been the same— pure, powerful and beautifully human.

Speak even if your voice shakes.
