The Parliament of South Africa has reignited debate on the regulation of podcasts and digital content platforms as lawmakers confront growing concerns over misinformation, harmful content and gaps in existing legislation. The issue came under the spotlight during a roundtable hosted by Parliament’s Portfolio Committee on Communications and Digital Technologies on Tuesday, 24 March, where members of Parliament, regulators and industry stakeholders examined whether current laws are sufficient to govern the rapidly expanding podcasting space.
