I’ve written about conservative commentator Matt Walsh a few times on Medium, and each time it’s usually about something ignorant he has said. This is only natural, given that ignorance is at the foundation of everything he says and believes.

Speaking as someone who has engaged with Matt Walsh and his content for some time, he clearly is not someone who knows much. He doesn’t do research to inform his opinions, he doesn’t read books, and he certainly doesn’t think through his positions before broadcasting them into the ethers. I don’t say this to poke fun at or belittle him; these are just accurate descriptions of the man and the messages he throws out there.

Fascism of the happenstance

One thing I have spoken about regarding Walsh is how he really exemplifies what I call the happenstance fascist: someone who has basically stumbled into fascism, instead of someone who has read fascist books or columns and become convinced by their arguments. This ties in with what I said about him being ignorant. Matt Walsh is someone who clearly follows his gut reaction or intuition for everything; this is what he bases his opinions on.
