The Namibian tactician and former Sundowns star is currently in South Africa. He arrived on CAF Champions League duty with African Stars. He is now working to finalise his move to the Premier Soccer League club.

Kanalelo is set to replace Phuti Mohafe, who recently parted ways with Marumo Gallants alongside his assistant Musa Bilankulu.

WHO IS FORMER SUNDOWNS GOALKEPER RONNIE KANALELO?

Kanalelo enjoyed a successful playing career, with his biggest spell coming at Sundowns between 1997 and 2005.

The former goalkeeper was nicknamed “The Magnet” during his time in the Premier Soccer League. He won three league titles with Sundowns. He also made close to 100 appearances for the club.

Before moving to South Africa, Kanalelo played for Namibian clubs Eleven Arrows and Blue Waters. He also represented the Namibia national team, the Brave Warriors, at international level.

WHAT IS KANALELO’S COACHING EXPERIENCE?

After retiring from playing, Kanalelo moved into coaching and initially worked as a goalkeeper coach in South African football.

He had spells with Maritzburg United and the now defunct Bloemfontein Celtic. He also worked with the Namibia national team as an assistant coach under managers including Ricardo Mannetti and Collin Benjamin.

Kanalelo later established himself as a head coach in the Namibian Premier League, managing UNAM FC, Tura Magic and United Africa Tigers.

He also worked with Bucks Buccaneers and FC Ongos, where he was credited with helping oversee significant improvements at the clubs.

Most recently, Kanalelo guided African Stars to the Debmarine Namibia Premiership title and the PstBet NFA Cup.

His potential appointment would therefore see Marumo Gallants turn to a coach with extensive experience as both a player and coach in Southern African football.

If the deal is completed, Kanalelo will have another opportunity to prove himself in South African football, this time in the PSL dugout.
