Once upon a time, being offered a cocktail in a can would have seemed like an insult. Cocktails were supposed to be shaken, stirred, garnished, and served in an appropriate glass. A can was reserved for cheaper drinks on the go, such as beer, soda, or perhaps the alcopops of the 1990s. Yet canned cocktails have moved decisively into the mainstream. In the United States, canned and ready-to-drink cocktails are now a substantial category, with consumers increasingly choosing canned margaritas, espresso martinis, negronis, and spritzes (Financial Times, 2026).
