‘No single player is bigger than Kaizer Chiefs’

Kaizer Chiefs have several young marketable stars in their playing squad. Should a few be sold this winter to balance the books?
Duba is a fan favourite at Kaizer Chiefs
Wandile Duba is arguably the best finisher at Kaizer Chiefs, and he’s popular among fans as a result. Now 22 years old, the versatile attacker can play through the middle as a number 9 or as a wide player in a front three. A return of three goals and two assists in 18 league outings last term isn’t brilliant, but he does have a knack for scoring spectacular goals, often in big games. Will that attract interest from elsewhere in South Africa or abroad? If so, would Chiefs entertain big offers for Duba?
Du Preez is leaving the building
According to several local reports, Stellenbosch winger Langelihle Phili remains near the top of Chiefs’ transfer wish list. The Glamour Boys could put together a player-plus-cash package to lure the 21-year-old to Naturena. Ashley du Preez could be the makeweight. Pacey, diminutive star Phili got seven goals in 27 league outings last term. Glody Lilepo is another player who could be heading out. The Congolese wide attacker bagged five goals and four assists in 27 league outings last term in a mostly wide attacking role.
Betway Premiership newcomers Kruger United will host Kaizer Chiefs on the first day of the 2026-27 season on Saturday, 1 August. The World Cup is a thing of the past, so we’ll soon be returning to the bread and butter of domestic league football. Hopefully Donald Trump doesn’t rock up and photo-bomb the Bushbuckridge team’s big moment.
